Cementitious Based Waterproofing

Substrate Preparation

  • New concrete or cementitious substrates should be at least 28 days old.
  • Surface should be clean and free from any laitance, wax, grease, dirt and oil or any materials could affect the bond.
  • Suitable Mechanical method such water jet or sand blasting or any equivalent method should be used to remove any existing old coatings
  • All cracks and spalled concrete should be repaired before starting the application as recommended by our technical department (Concrete Repair solutions from DCP)
  • Presoak the concrete surface with water prior to product application until a surface saturated dry condition is reached.

Mixing

  • Use slow speed mixer fitted with mixing paddle to mix the powder and the liquid polymer.
  • Pour the liquid polymer in suitable clean bucket and start adding the powder to the polymer or water for single component products gradually while continuous mixing is maintained using mixer.
  • Time of mixing should be between 3 - 5 minutes or until lump-free slurry is obtained
  • Do not mix part of packs under any condition, as this will change the mixing ratio between the powder and the liquid polymer which will affect the material performance.

Application

  • Apply the mixed material using a brush, roll, trowel, or spray machines. The mixed material should be brushed/rolled well into the substrate in one direction.
  • Apply the first coat into the concrete surface.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 hours, depending on the ambient temperature, should be given for the first coat to cure before applying the second coat.
  • If the first coat is left exposed for a long period of time, it is recommended to wash the surface with water before applying the second coat, in order to ensure a dust free surface.
  • Fiber reinforced mesh or more preferably AquaProof Tape Flex can be placed into the first coat and pressed firmly while still wet prior to the application of the second coat to the areas of wall/floor angle connections, cold joints and cracks
  • For brush or roller application, the second coat should be applied in a perpendicular direction to the previous layer to ensure good bond and coverage.
  • To achieve a smooth finish, it is recommended to finish the surface with a trowel immediately after brushing the second coat.
  • Allow 4 -7 days depending on ventilation and ambient temperature after applying the second coat for full curing before water immersion.

Recommendations

  • It is recommended to test the adhesion between the substrates and Setseal B on small area onsite prior to proceeding the works in order to ensure that the substrate is well prepared and compatible with the product.
  • No standing water should remain during application.
  • If a cementitious plaster or cementitious tile adhesive (recommended C2TE grade) is to be applied over the cementitious waterproofing , finish off the second coat with horizontal brush strokes to give more grip.
