Kaheel Project
Task at Hand
The client, Mohammad Al Habib Real Estate Company, aimed to achieve the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Continuous Concrete Pour” for the foundation of this project. The raft foundation, with a depth of 1.5 meters, needed to be poured uninterrupted, requiring around 70,000 cubic meters of concrete.
The primary challenges stemmed from the project’s location and the timing of the pour. The pouring began on Thursday evening, coinciding with the start of the Saudi weekend, which imposed restrictions on the movement of concrete mixers due to traffic bans. Additionally, the concrete’s sensitivity to time posed a challenge, as it needed to be approved and poured promptly upon arrival. The project’s location between the airport area and major business districts (Riyadh Front and Business Gate) further complicated logistics.
To address these challenges, high-performance superplasticizing admixtures were introduced into the project’s mix design. These admixtures provided the necessary workability and slump retention while maintaining the required concrete properties and performance. The high workability retention properties were essential to accommodate the mass concreting and the depth of the raft foundation, ensuring efficient pouring and setting despite logistical and timing constraints.
DCP SOLUTION
DCP played a crucial role in this achievement by providing specialized admixtures to ensure high workability and strength of the concrete. The project required meticulous planning and execution due to the involvement of multiple concrete suppliers and the need to maintain continuous pouring.
DCP’s specialized admixtures and on-ground technical support ensured the project’s success, demonstrating DCP’s capability to handle large-scale and complex construction challenges. The DCP team was appreciated by the project manager for their on-ground technical support during this sensitive event.
DCP’s admixtures were used in almost 30,000 m³ of the total concrete provided, which amounted to 69,824.87 m³. This represented the highest share among competitors, showcasing the effectiveness and reliability of DCP’s solutions and this case study highlights DCP’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the construction industry.
