Gramaphone Works Floor Refurbishment
Task at Hand
This project was a refurbishment of a former Gramophone Works building, which was being converted into office space.
One main challenge the contractors faced during the refurbishment process was achieving a polished concrete finish for 3 interior floors in the building (making up a total area of 1000 m2), where old terrazzo tiles had been poorly applied and were in very poor condition.
DCP SOLUTION
The technical team at DCP UK proposed the use of Cemflow Topping Pigmented, a self-smoothing, dimensionally stable, and fast drying cementitious floor topping. This product was designed for renovating new and existing internal floors. This system provided the perfect solution to the problem, it was applied over the existing terrazzo tiles and was able to achieve the desired polished concrete look.
During the application of this flooring system, Abstract Flooring Ltd had to prepare the existing old terrazzo tiles for the Cemflow Topping. To do that, the contractor had to undertake a lot of grinding and repair work, as well as deep fill some sections of the floor with 30 mm of levelling screed Cemflow Base. Subsequently, in order to achieve optimum adhesion of Cemflow Topping, 2 coats of Strongcoat Primer were applied with the second coat being blinded out with quartz to form a strong mechanical key ready for the application of Cemflow Topping.
